Trooper who collapsed in parking lot back on the job

NEW HAVEN — Vermont State Police officials on Wednesday identified heroin as the substance that Trooper Brett Flansburg encountered during a March 15 traffic stop in Leicester and subsequently caused him to become ill and collapse in the parking lot of the New Haven barracks. He revived after getting several doses of Narcan, the opioid blocking drug. Flansburg, who was an acting sergeant at the time of this incident while New Haven Barracks Lt. Man caught with fentanyl in CT gets 30 months in prison

A Rhode Island man was sentenced Thursday for trafficking fentanyl. Alcides Alba-Gomez, a 29-year-old Providence, R.I., resident, was sentenced to serve 30 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Court documents showed that on Sept. 13, 2017, Alba-Gomez and Gabri Javier Delapaz drove from Rhode Island to New York to pick up narcotics from a supplier. The Department of Justice said the pair were stopped by Connecticut State Police on Interstate 95 in Old Lyme. Study: Fentanyl-Related Deaths Spiked 122% In West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (CBS Local) — Fentanyl-related deaths have skyrocketed in West Virginia even as prescription-related opioid deaths declined, according to a new study. Researchers analyzed the number of fentanyl deaths from 2015 to 2017 and found that deaths rose by 122%. Prescription opioid-related deaths decreased by 75% in those same two years.
